In healthcare, innovation often arises when something is not working. It may appear in a work process that creates friction, in a product that is not adapted to real-life conditions, or in a patient interaction where the need is clear but the solution is missing.
True user involvement means that the people who use the solution help shape it. It means involving target groups, patients and staff early on – not merely as a testing group at the end. It means recognising that everyday practical knowledge carries as much weight as technical expertise.
When users become co-creators, both the product and the process change. Innovation then becomes something that grows through collaboration rather than something delivered from the outside.
In this conversation, two perspectives will meet on how user involvement can drive innovation – one from the frontline of healthcare and one from the reality of entrepreneurship.

For those working with innovation, development or leadership within healthcare and health services. For those working in care and support who recognise everyday innovation – the act of “simply making things work” when something does not function as it should. For those who are curious, who see opportunities for improvement and who carry ideas that have not yet found their place.
