New Legal Tool for Health Data and AI

Legal frameworks and regulations related to health data and AI can be difficult to navigate, particularly for companies and organisations developing new data-driven solutions in health and social care. To make this easier, Health Data Sweden is now launching HDS Legal Toolbox.

HDS Legal Toolbox is a digital tool designed to help companies and organisations navigate legal issues related to innovation in health data and AI.

Developing and using data-driven solutions in health and social care offers great opportunities, but also involves complex legal requirements. The aim of HDS Legal Toolbox is to lower these barriers and help ensure that legislation becomes an enabler rather than an obstacle in the innovation process.

Leap for Life is one of the partner organisations within Health Data Sweden. With more than 15 years of experience working closely with companies, Emma Börjesson has identified a clear need for accessible and practical legal support.

“HDS Legal Toolbox is a platform where we have brought together and simplified the legal landscape surrounding health data, making it easier for companies to understand which regulations they need to comply with,” says Emma Börjesson, Head of Operations at Leap for Life and one of the driving forces behind the development of HDS Legal Toolbox.

Legal Guidance Tailored for Innovation

HDS Legal Toolbox brings together practical guidance on relevant regulations, including data protection, information security and AI, and is designed to support stakeholders throughout the entire innovation journey – from idea and development to testing and implementation.

The tool offers guidance in several formats, such as questions and answers, checklists, case examples and an AI-based assistant. Users can explore scenarios similar to their own products or services and gradually build a solid understanding of legal requirements early in the development process.

“The purpose is not to replace legal expertise, but to create a knowledge base that helps companies start navigating legal and regulatory issues,”
adds Emma Börjesson.

With HDS Legal Toolbox, Health Data Sweden aims to create better conditions for innovation through data and AI – where legislation serves as an enabler rather than a barrier.
